Help with junkyards

I barely ever visited junkyards in a decade playing. Only other time that pops into my mind is when I was playing a werewolf and he wished to visit a junkyard on a date. Long story short, I ventured into one Friday. I "salvaged" some pieces of furniture.

The salvaged items can't either be used nor repaired. The only option I get is to replace them ... for the whole nominal price.

I understand the salvaged furniture can be broken down into pieces of junk. But the tutorial mentions repairing the salvaged furniture and using then.

Am I missing something?

No personal experience here either, but I've read you can call the repairman and he'll (she'll) repair anything from the junkyard while at your home. Otherwise, I think sims have to be level 10 in inventing to repair things themselves.
  • I think there is a mod that allows you to repair items from the junk yard and use them. I've not tried the mod as I rarely bother with trying to repair anything. As far as I know you have to pay full price if you do decide to repair something.

EDIT: I couldn't find the mod, but someone suggested leaving the salvaged items outside the sim's house until something breaks inside. Then call the repairman and they will all get fixed. That might have been a glitch as the advice is 11 years old.

    EDIT2: Here's the mod

  • A level 9 witch can 'fix' salvaged items with the Restoration Ritual. Otherwise, I think the best thing to do is detonate them for scrap
  • I tried calling the repairman. He comes to the lot to then remain still, waiting.

Did you have something to repair other than the stuff you got from the junkyard. It may not even work now anyway as it was from a post I saw from 2011. There have been many patches since then.

It just seemed pointless to me to bother salvaging anything from the junkyard so I don't bother.
  • First time, there wasn't anything and he stood there waiting so I dismissed him. Second time, I had a similar thought so I broke my kitchen sink and called another Repairman. He came, tampered with the sink, but failed to fix it. He then said he was done, took the $50 and left. I don't know if it's typical behaviour as I never use Repairmen. I gave it another shot, this time with both a broken shower (accidental...) and the broken sink. Repairman fixed the sink and left, he didn't touch neither the shower nor the salvaged Bookcase and Dishwasher.

I suppose that's the reason you don't usually hire repairmen. I'm only tempted to hire one if the dishwasher broke and there is a pool of water in front of it. I usually just decide to replace the dishwasher. I once had Bonehilda fried. That was an interesting experience. So once she was thoroughly singed I tried singing her again to see what would happen. She just stayed singed.
