Is the exchange safe? What about The Sims Resource? What are some good cc sites?

So I heard that the Sims 3 exchange is the worst place to download from. But I really like the clothes,hair,etc.I don't download lots or Sims, because that is bad and i know that. But how bout the clo...

I stay away from TSR because of a scandal a number of years back. I can't remember all the details now. Something about compromising members' passwords and payment information (for the pay side of it).
