I usually start with a married couple. Gives a solid base/touch-point for me (plus I don't have to start my game trying to 'woo' anyone in order to begin a family whenever I'm ready to). (See my 'matriarch/patriarch' couple as my profile pic - very loosely based on my husband and I.) I develop their relationship, careers, then offspring. Then I bring in others to marry the offspring. I also make other households, communal living for career and financially support, and intermix these with members from the original household as they grow up and pair off at various times. I like to run large, challenging households with goals as a group and individually. Otherwise I tend to get bored fast. Plus I micromanage. A lot. But always on autonomy. I also play with aging off, but that's me. I age the kids up, but stop at adulthood normally. If they had a 'middle age, I would go for that also, but last I knew it went from adult to elder, and I find elders a bit of a pain in the butt with my playing style, which is rather 'Type A'. There are so many playing styles and ways to mix it up! Have fun!
