- Anytime :-)
You don't make a custom mesh for trees as speedtree does it using procedural generation of trees based on numbers that you can set. You can edit any tree in the game as long as you don't change the texture name. You can change the textures and group numbers.
For example the name "tree_blackgum_composite_D" with group number "0x00000000" would be change to "tree_blackgum_composite_D" with group number "0x48000000"
As long as the texture uses a different group number it won't reference the original. Feel free to open my trees in s3pe and dig around. You might be able to learn something from them.
My explanations aren't the best but I hope I can slightly help
unfortunately I don't have tumblr but I could possibly make one for my sims 3 projects :-) - I'd love to submit them to modthesims but don't really have the time to go through all their guidelines.
If you could promote my world that would be great and I'd really appreciate it :-)
Plants in the sims 3 use a program called speedtree which is common in loads of games. the particular version I used was speedtree cad 4 but this no longer renders textures on my windows 8.1 PC.
The tree meshes of mine are copies of existing trees in the game with different textures applied to them except for the white oak which is a clone of the Chinese Elm but made a bit taller and bigger.
The only problem with speedtree cad 4 is that some options are disabled, so the billboards (the 2D trees you see in the distance) must be made by hand in photoshop by capturing 9 different angles of the tree. Normally, speedtree would render these for you.
I found that to enable them with seasons you must not change the texture names in s3pe at all. At first they will be default replacements but by changing the group number of the textures you can stop that happening. The SPT SPT2 files must also match the group number of the texture files or they will appear black in game.
It really was a huge struggle getting them to work but so worth it in the end.
Thanks for asking. It's good to know I can help someone. Plant's are really fun things to make for the sims I agree.
