Babies are definitely infants. They can't do anything except eat sleep or poop.
Toddlers are in the learning stages- talking, walking, potty training, floor play... so they could be anywhere from a year to 4 years old.
I think YA starts at 18, because in the game, you can't attend university or graduate from high school until you are a YA. For most of us, that would be at around 18. For me, it was 17.
I like to think of the adults in their Mid 30's and up because the signs of aging are setting in.
Elders would have to be in their late 70's or higher because they are completely gray, and stooped over- barely able to walk, unless you give them the "gentleman" strut with a cane. my 93 year old grandmother walks better than the elders in the game do, but I see your reasoning, since Elder women can not have babies, you might conclude they are post menopausal.
I am in agreement with the others who don't see sims in ages, just stages. Best not to overthink it, I think.
This is the way I think of the stages too.
Also I have configured NRaas Story progression so my adults can not have children within 10 days of turning elder (I use a 91 day life span). So in my games they go menopausal before becoming an elder. That way the child will at least be a teen and can stay on by themselves in their own house when the parents die.
Edit: The stages I use are
baby - 2 days
toddler - 5 days
child - 7 days
teen - 14 days
YAdult - 21 days
adult - 35 days
elder - 7 days
Making everything a multiple of 7 means they always have their birthday on the same day of the week.
