@Chloe2445 No, the resource.cfg file is not a mod and should NOT go into Packages. It should sit directly in the Mods folder. All the actual mods and custom content that's in .package form should go into Packages. The ccmerged.package file is not a mod or cc item either and doesn't need to be anywhere within the Mods folder.

Hey there @puzzlezaddict ,
I've been scouring the forums for a way to solve my "Sims 3 mods/cc not working", and I've gone over your steps several times and different ways, and it's still not working. I'm hoping maybe you could work your magic and find a way for it to work for me?
Thanks >.<
@LiddleLid Please post a screenshot of the contents of the folder that contains your mods, as in, I want to see the files themselves. Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, in the screenshot.

@puzzlezaddict Would've responded sooner but I was in class >.< Here ya go, hopefully this is right -
@LiddleLid Sorry for the late reply. I actually wanted to see the contents of the Packages folder, assuming that's where you've put your mods. But in this case, the problem, or at least a problem, is obvious: your Mods folder is inside a second Mods folder. Sims 3 can't read the files in this format. The file path needs to be:
... The Sims 3 > Mods > Packages
Once you've gotten rid of the redundant folder, delete scriptCache.package from the Sims 3 folder and see whether the mods work. If not, please post a screenshot of the Packages folder, again with the address bar showing.

@puzzlezaddict Well now I was able to get the game to start with only the Maxis screen and then straight to the loading screen, so I think that part is working? But now I don't know how to find my cc in game. I looked all around CAS for some of the few starter mods I downloaded but I don't see any of them. Just some skin/makeup stuff...
@LiddleLid What mods or custom content are you looking for that you don't see? Please either list the files (but don't link them) or post a screenshot of the Packages folder and let me know what isn't loading.
Please also try deleting the other cache files in your user folder in case it helps. Aside from scriptCache, these are the others:
- CASPartCache.package
- compositorCache.package
- simCompositorCache.package
- socialCache.package

@puzzlezaddict Here's the packages folder. So far it's just CAS mods but I don't see them in my game. :/
@LiddleLid Everything looks fine here, but I think this custom content might all be for Sims 4, not 3. (The eyeliner definitely is, and it looks like most of this creator's work is for Sims 4.) Both Sims 3 and 4 use .package files for cc, so it's an easy mistake to make if you're not double-checking the download pages.

I'm sorry to bother you, I know this is random but I am having the same problem as well, I've tried about everything and I can't find out what's wrong.
@soky21 You're not bothering me at all; I answer questions here because I enjoy it.
Is there a resource.cfg inside the Mods folder? Did you delete the five cache files after installing the mods? They're in the Sims 3 user folder, and these are their names:
- CASPartCache.package
- compositorCache.package
- scriptCache.package
- simCompositorCache.package
- socialCache.package
If this isn't the issue, please find the deviceconfig.log file inside the Sims 3 user folder (the one your Mods folder is inside) and check its modified date. If the timestamp does NOT match the last time you launched the game, then this is the wrong folder, as in, not the one the game is reading.
Please also provide the full file path to the Packages folder. Your screenshot only shows the file path as far back as "The Sims 3"; I want to know the part befor that as well. You can right-click on the folder and select Properties > General, then find the file path under Location. If you prefer, you can write [username] instead of your actual username, but please leave the rest intact.

Hello, I have seen you helping people a lot so I am hoping you can help me. I am having an issue with getting my newly downloaded mods to work in game. Mods that I had downloaded before the game transferred to EA still work, but I am not able to add any new ones to my game. And I tried to uninstall all of the caches, reinstall the framework, everything I have seen on here when it comes to mod installation. Please help!
@ZoieKris Please post a screenshot of the contents of the folder that contains your new mods, as in, I'd like to see the mods themselves. You can highlight the ones that aren't working by holding down the ctrl key while clicking each one in turn.
- gamermomma232 years agoNot applicable@puzzlezaddict I NEED YOUR HELP!! I have done everything right i think to get mods yet the few ive tested, dont work!!
@gamermomma23
Please post a screenshot of the mod files themselves, sitting in their folder. Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, in the screenshot. Please also list the game version number you see in the lower-left corner of the Sims 3 launcher.Edit: I've just seen your private message and its accompanying screenshots. All the files in your screenshot, other than nointro and nobuildsparkles, are custom content, not mods, and furthermore they're Sims3Packs. These need to go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Downloads, and you'll then need to install them through the launcher's Downloads tab.
Everything inside Mods except for Packages, Overrides, and the resource file should be removed. Even the resource.zip should go. The game won't use any of that.

I went through all of the threads pertaining to the mods folder not working and still its not working. I deleted the caches but the caches aren't coming back. I have reinstalled that mods folder like 15 times. I made sure the deviceconfig file was in the section of the mods folder. After around 5 hours I give up and just really need some help. Any ideas?
NVM ONE DRIVE MADE A SECOND VERSION OF THE SIMS AND THE MODS FOLDER WOULDN'T SINK
@yioshrdfgu123 Do you still need help, or do you have everything figured out now? If you do need more help, just ask.

Hello! i been researching for days to try to understand what im doing wrong. I downloaded mods into my sims 3 folder and they arent appearing in the game.
Please help me figure out the problem ☹️
@torischiebel The M in the name Mods needs to be capitalized.
- torischiebel2 years agoNot applicable
I captizled the M in mods and its still not working ☹️
@torischiebel Are you sure that this is the Sims 3 folder the game is reading? Please double-check the date on DeviceConfig.log: it should exactly match the last time you launched the game. If not, you're in the wrong folder. And make sure you've deleted scriptCache.package in the Sims 3 folder as well.
If this isn't the problem, try downloading a (new) copy of the Mods Framework from MTS, and see whether the two sample mods work. Don't add any other mods to the new folder, at least not the first time around. If nointro and NoBuildSparkles work, then you can start adding your other mods.

By the way, I meant to say so before, but there is one Sims3Pack file in your current Packages folder. That needs to go in ...The Sims 3 > Downloads and be installed through the launcher; the game can't read it when it's in Mods > Packages.

@puzzlezaddict i screenshotted my sims 3 folder because im not finding "Sims3Pack" in there as well as my package folder.
Also i dont know how to check the device log when i click on it its a bunch of random numbers/letters

@torischiebel In the first screenshot you included, this one:
The third entry, "Evergreen Mansion Furnished," is a Sims3Pack. This is a file extension, as in, a type of file, not the name of an individual file. Your copy of Windows is set not to display some file extensions, which is why you see .package on the end of the other files but not .Sims3Pack on the end of this one.
You do not need to open DeviceConfig.log. (And it's not a bunch of random characters; the file contains a lot of useful data if you know how to read it.) You need to look at the modified date to the right of the file name. That is what should match the last time you opened Sims 3.
