Re: The Sims 3 Keeps Minimizing!

I've been having this issue and killing myself trying to fix it!

I FINALLY FIXED IT!

I noticed that the full screen resolution that it was setting my game to was way off. When I changed the resolution in the game it stopped minimizing itself. Here is how to fix it and keep it fixed!

Right click on your desktop-> Screen Resolution -> write down recommended (mine is 1920x1200)

Then go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/ The Sims 3
Open the Options.ini file
search for Resolution
(it should have 3 numbers after it separated by spaces)

change the first number to the first number of your recommended resolution
and the second number to the second recommended resolution and leave the third number alone

EX: resolution = 1920 1200 60 (that's mine)

Save it, restart the sims

Hopefully you will be playing in no time!

    Hello guys,

    I'm having the  same  issue,   my operating  systems  is  Windows 7 and  anti virus  is  MAc Acfee.  It  was just  fine  until  a  few  days ago,  but then  my  sister  dropped  my  computer and  since  then  it's  been  acting  up,  but it only does it with the  Sims 3. I have  other game  and  playing then  in fullscreen is  no  problem.   And  my  resolution is  fine it's where it  should be so I'm  drawing  blank here. It's  plays  just  fine on windowed.

    Do a system check and a check disc. Maybe some hard drive sectors were damaged.

     besides what Crin told you to try, by any chance did you do an update? Some people were reporting new update reset their launchers. It happened to me too, it changed my settings. This could also be a cause not just that your computer was dropped.

  • I have tried what you have suggested here (I FINALLY FIXED IT!) but unfortunately it still hasn't solved the problem. Is there something else you can suggest?

    Best if you made your own thread, posting your system specs and describing the issue you're seeing in your own words.

  • I just downloaded The Sims and all my expansions onto my new desktop (I have it on my laptop too), only to run into this problem without even playing it on here yet. I've tried changing it to the recommended resolution of my computer and still nothing. I've also added it to the exception list in data execution prevention. I've tried everything and I have no idea what else to do. Yes, it's up to date, and it's still working perfectly on my laptop. Pleeeassee help! This is extremely frustrating. Especially since I bought a desktop in order to not have to deal with overheating when I play games.

    It worked a treat on Sims 4 as of 19 July 2018.

    C:\Users\<my username>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\options.ini

    My File had 2 separate areas for width and height so anyone reading this just do a ctrl + f and type 'resolution' if you're having trouble finding the correct locations within the file:

    resolutionheight = ....

    resolutionwidth = .....

    When I went into my sims 4 option files, the resolution settings were actually split up into the three below. recommended resolution for my computer is 3200 x 1800. how do I fix the files so that my game stops minimizing itself?

    resolutionheight = 720

    resolutionrefresh = 60

    resolutionwidth = 1280

    Hello it has been awhile since you have posted about this problem that I have encounter 2 days ago, I am now on my fourth day and I have figured it out. I myself am using The Sims 4 with all the expansion packs and stuff packs included.
    The resolution part does help, but for me only to a certain extend.
    You should fix the height and the weight to the recommend ones that your computer recommended. Just like he instructed us to, 720 to 1800 and 1280 to 3200 and the 60 remains the same don't touch it. after doing this, select file and then save and close out. Then the next step.

    Go to Origin Online.com once you sign in (in your browser online) go into game library and select The Sims 4, as always select the play with origin button and you will be asked to ⚽ download origin ....or..... 🏈 launch origin.. choose option 2 if origin is already on your laptop\desktop like most of us here seeking for a solution for this problem. By the way origin is experiencing issues for days now not our computers. PS found that out today actually wasted so much time sigh.. Anyway after origin launches (the app itself will open) and BOOM you're game should be A OK... loading and everything. please just continue to be patient it will work now.

    Note to self as well because after 3 days I was highly impatient,
    but beamed when it finally gave me results! origin app is down so going through your internet browser is the only way for now.
    Happy Simming!!

               These are the screenshots to help better understand what I am saying. Happy Simming! Make sure the sims game and Origin is not running. This will open the game and origin app for you after pressing launch.

  • @Akiviaa IF I COULD KISS YOU RN I WOULD, if anyone is having this issue follow her instructions exactly i was about to give up and this worked thank you so so much
