ANTI-Sims 4 Marketplace

I want to start this discussion by saying that I support those that create CC / Mods for the Sims. I have been a participant of using CC since Sims 2 (playing since The Sims) and I know how HARD those that create for this franchise to be more expansive, creative, and more well-rounded.

THAT BEING SAID.

Sims 4 Marketplace and their new Makers program is a RIDICULOUS MONEY GRAB.

DO WE NOT (AS SIMMERS) continue to purchase into a franchise that hasn't done nearly enough upgrading a game over 10 years old?

Is there a reason this team doesn't focus on repairing, remodeling, and remolding what they've created to be better, more functional, and more enjoyable for those that have invested into this franchise?

Isn't the Merch store enough for them? Isn't our continued pre-purchases, kit purchases (for SO FEW ITEMS WITH LITTLE TO NO FUNCTIONALITY), etc. not enough?????

Removed portion for "violating guidelines" march 4, 2026

Is no one upset?

Has my fandom, love, and investment not been enough for you to not turn into a corporate devil that's looking to drain my pockets in a world built against the average person?

Sims used to be a franchise I loved that helped me escape and realize dreams the real world can't provide for many of us for a multitude of reasons.

Now, it just feels like the Sims is selling out and needs my name on the dotted line.

I won't sign.

I'm tired of sinking funds into a franchise that only seems to care about my enjoyment. Everything doesn't need a paywall or a subscription.

We should be able to enjoy the game we've purchased without feeling excluded because funds aren't enough to get the newest latest thing that THEY HAVEN'T EVEN CREATED!!!

Just because they're working with Creators doesn't mean they aren't just trying to get paid too. They're upset that a lot of their influencers and Sims creators aren't happy with them and they're looking for someone else to buy something from them just to ignore the problem.

This isn't the franchise I grew up with.

These aren't the adventures I want to play anymore.

I'm hoping people see this and see the forest for the trees as it were.

They're distracting from the issue at hand and while I have loved this franchise for so long, I cannot continue to support things that don't align with my values.

We deserve better gaming.

I'm sad about this. From the pictures shown, one or two items can be priced higher than the kits are now. It looks like there is no option for Creators to post items for free, so everything will be permanently behind a paywall. Creators receive only 30%, so it's in their best interest to charge as much as EA allows. I don't like fake currency either.

The kits are moving to this system as well. I don't like purchasing in game. It takes longer to download than buying through the EA app.

The only advantage seems to be for console players and the fact that the CC won't break with updates. But CC rarely breaks anyway. This system won't include script mods.

The only thing I like about this is that it brings CC to console for the first time. That said, Larian Studios was able to deliver mods/cc to their BG3 players for free. No micro transactions. No in-game currency. No profiting off the backs of those content creators. Just creating a platform so that gamers on PC/Mac and console could add mods/cc into their game for their enjoyment.

EA isn't hurting for money. Learn from Larian. Do better by this community, especially content creators.

There's all sorts of things I don't like about this.  I don't like that the creators are getting a raw deal, I don't like the obfuscation of prices behind in-game currency, I don't like that I have less than 2 weeks at this point to decide how much I actually want and can reasonably get of the remaining Kits I don't have because I'm not rewarding EA for this stunt by buying any of said in game currency,

The kits thing bothers me in the respect that they'll no longer be sold for real money so what's the exchange rate going to be? Currently for me in the UK kits are £4.99 so you'd assume that means that should be 500 moola but you know it won't be, you'll have to buy 1,000 moola bringing the kits up by almost double the price they are now. I'm not a big fan of kits per say, but it's a dark path to charge you more than they were before and that kind of thing never bodes well for the consumer. Another thing is does this signal the beginning of a slow decline of items included on future packs/DLC from EA, that they say will stay as they are purchase wise, will they cut a load out just to charge us more by adding them as in game currency exclusive kits? I stopped playing Destiny 2 to get away from this sort of monetisation 😔 I'm worried for the future of the sims if it spirals too far down this path.

I never used CC, so I have no plans on buying Maker created content. I see no reason to buy something that was previously free. So that is probably why I am not upset. I mod, but I am very newbie amateur, I wouldn't pay for mods ever.

But I am cautious over this change. I am concerned about the currency exchange rate. I use to buy from the Sims 3 Store and almost completely owned it. But that had better currency exchange, decent discounts, the ability to buy individual items (except in certain cases), collection completion, and gifting.

Edit: I think that irks me the most is kits are the biggest rip off, and now they are going to be an even bigger rip off, having to buy non-matching priced currency. But I don't buy kits cause they are a rip off (I was waiting for custom kit bundles at a discount), I only got what came free with R&L. Plus since CAStyle doesn't exist swatch matching across packs is annoying enough, now with this, it will be a nightmare.

I am wondering if this is how they are trying to allow CC for console users. I will have to see it to know for sure. It was my first thought when first hearing about the marketplace as a thing.

I personally do not have the funds to pay the CC and mod creators. I only ever obtain the free versions as of now. It does mean that I have to wait or at times can't get some of the content. If the marketplace offers it at a cost, I will not be utilizing it.
