I am not trying to register the game. I have all separate discs. I load in the base game. Then I load in University, after it loads disc 2, it asks me to put disc 4 of base game to update the game. The red line goes across once, then this is what I get.
the update process did not complete successfully. Instillation will now terminate.
Then it totally uninstalls University.
I don't know what to do.

@kevvanwolf Patches crashing is a common issue on modern Windows versions. What you will need to do is install the patch for every pack before you move on to installing the next pack.
The Sims 2 Patches can be found on Mod the Sims; if you are unable to download them, right-click on the download link, copy, and paste it into a new browser tab. Patches are available for the following Sims 2 games, and I recommend installing all of them:
- The Sims 2 Base Game (available as CD and DVD versions, pick the one that matches your game)
- The Sims 2 University
- The Sims 2 Nightlife
- The Sims 2 Open for Business
- The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff
- The Sims 2 Pets (Disk and Digital Patch available, pick Disk)
- The Sims 2 Seasons (Disk and Digital Patch available, pick Disk)
- The Sims 2 Bon Voyage
- The Sims 2 FreeTime
- The Sims 2 Apartment Life
Base Game, University, and Nightlife patches normally crash on Windows 10/11; there is a program available, called GrumpyLoader, that lets the installer ignore the errors and continue the patch installation. It is available on Mod the Sims on the thread titled 'A word of warning about Windows 8' (post #193) and to use it, all you need to open it and load the patch. When it asks you to ignore an error, click Yes. After it is done, run the patch once again, without GrumpyLoader, to check that the game is actually up to date. After you patch one pack, move on to installing the next one, and repeat until you are done.
Another issue you might run into is the 'This app has been blocked for your protection' error when installing packs made in 2008 and patching them. If that happens, disconnect from the internet, set the date to sometime in 2010 and try again. If that works, you can set the correct time once you are done installing everything.
Once the game is finally installed, you will need to use Graphics Rules Maker (available on SimsNetwork) to fix some compatibility issues that cause crashing and low graphics. If you need help with that, let me know.
