I keep getting "server timed out" and "client desynchronized" or the endless loop of trying to connect.

I am having the same problem, it appears some people are playing based off their levels. Were any of you able to access the mandatory 1.2 download? I believe this is the issue.
I only got a 64 mb update and that is it. I don't get prompted for a 1.2gb download.
Also can't install the game on my hardrive.
Yep, didnt get an option for the 1.2 gig download and am getting the ""client desynchronized" every game.
I didn't even know we were supposed to get a mandatory 1.2GB download
- Me too and I reset router, cable box, forwarded ports, reinstalled and wasted my life
