Freezing/Massive Stuttering in Multiplayer

I've been getting a lot of freezing/hardcore stuttering (I feel "stuttering" is a huge understatement, personally) in Titanfall 2. Originally it was in both the singleplayer and multiplayer, but disabling vsync fixed it in the SP entirely. However, I still get it in multiplayer and it makes the game totally unplayable - as every time I freeze I lose control and my character freezes wherever they are (such as mid-air).

It's not an issue with my wireless network, and my drivers are up-to-date. I exceed the recommended requirements, and technically should be able to play the game at 4K without issues (but don't, because I'm a scrub). I also lowered video settings to the absolute minimum and still saw freezing, so it doesn't seem to be an issue with that (and like I said, shouldn't be). I've also taken extra measures and disabled any recording software (Dxtory & Shadowplay), disabled the Origin overlay, closed Steam and other background programs entirely, and even lowered my field of view.

Titanfall 2 is the first game to ever give me major performance issues - and I played Arkham Knight on launch. I'd really like to play this game, being a huge fan of the first, but with the freezes it's almost literally unplayable. I will be requesting a refund if I cannot get these issues fixed.

  • I'm Also experiencing crazy Frame rate drops from 60FPS all the way down to 30 sometimes.

I played the whole SP in 1440p maxed out with 2msaa at a solid 60.. 99% off the time.

What gives with MP? I have tried playing on the lowest setting just to see if this was a performance issue. It did decrease how often it happens but it still was dropping 10-15 frames when I just look around a corner or jump or shoot.. seems very random!

    Latest Drivers

    Win10

    GTX980ti

    i7 6700k 4.6ghz

    16gb DDR4

  • I'd like to clarify that while the above user's issue is similar, it isn't the same. They are experiencing frame drops, I'm facing outright freezes.

My specs are actually the same as theirs btw. Nice.

Is it like a stutter? Where it feels like the game drops to 10fps but it only says 40 or so during the drop? Try updating your card to beta drivers (if you havent since you didnt post Dxdiag)

  • Drivers are totally updated (375.70) as stated in original post. And it's technically stuttering, but a single "stutter" can last up to three seconds.

I've got the same problem. Is happens at random times. Game will just freeze for a second or three and start skipping then after about 20 to 30 seconds it play's fine again? Rx 480 single card, driver 16.10.3 windows 10 updated.

Edit: Talking about multiplayer, single player was like butter 🙂

anyone know how to open console commands to show fps because the game will drop frames pretty hard i dont know if it is CPU issue like BF1. game play compared to the game im playing looks very rough

  • Yeah for me it's like the "hand of god" pulling me back or jerking me to a place I didn't go. Sometimes it even jerks me back through a wall. I have played this game since 2015. Never had this problem. Now I have it all the time. Changed controllers. Everything's up to date. Reinstalling the game hopefully that might help. I can't find a solution.

  • I also have this problem

    I have a rtx 3060

    amd ryzen 9 5900

    and 16 gb of ram

everything is up to date as well.

Wow - way to res a 5-year-old thread.

Only thing I can say is - the common bottleneck here seems to be the 16 gb of RAM.

@683mmy  - Just to let you know, my system specs are:

    Ryzen 7 2700 Eight-core Processor @3.30 GHz
    nVidia GeForce RTX 2060
    32 GB of RAM
    installed on a SSD

I don't have any stuttering at all.  This is with Windows 10 (just upgraded to 11) Home, and all my drivers and Windows updates are current.

So there's some other kind of bottleneck on your system - not sure if it's the 16GB of RAM, but that should be enough to run it as long as you don't have a bunch of crap in the background (e.g. - antivirus, streaming overlays, etc.)

Just trying to give you hope - it works on my mutt system that's been in a constant state of upgrades since about 2013, should work on yours.
