I have the same issue, only my computer does not freeze, just the sound gets distorted.
Can you both please upload an msinfo or DxDiag? pastebin is appreciated.
DxDiag: press th Windows Key and R at the same time and type dxdiag then hit enter. click the button at the bottom of the window that pops up that says "run 64 bit dxdiag" then click "save all info". save the file to your desktop as dxdiag.txt.
directions for msinfo:
win 7: type msinfo32 into the start search box and hit enter. next click file > export and save it to your desktop as msinfo.txt.
win 8: same
hopefully this will tell us 1: if you both have anything in common, 2: your drivers, and 3: any conflicts that may be happening.
upload one or both to a new paste on pastebin and provide the link here.

This is the same sound issues I have, but mine does eventually lead to a freeze shortly after. Most of the time that's how most of my freezes happen, sometimes it freezes out of nowhere.
