PC Steam - 'Can't find background image' error when trying to launch Titanfall 2
Every time that I attempt to launch Titanfall 2 through steam, I receive a popup message that says "Engine Error" followed by "Can't find background image 'materials/console/R1_product_1_widescreen.vtf'". Upon clicking 'OK' the game client closes. I have been unable to start the game successfully since purchasing it on steam. I previously was able to launch the game when it was installed through the EA app when I had subscribed to EA play. The steps I have followed to troubleshoot are:
- Verify game files through steam
- Reinstall game to different drive
- Launch game in clean boot
- Reinstall EA App
- Update Nvidia drivers
- Run EA app and Titanfall 2 exe as administrator
- Attempt to launch game in fresh admin account
- Clear any and all Titanfall/EA app files from PC before reinstalling
I have also attached a screenshot of the error message and the DxDiag output from my PC.
I found a fix for this error on the Steam discussion boards. You have to go into the windows registry editor and change the install path of Titanfall 2 to the new steam download location
