Have you updated your DirectX drivers?
After googling materialsystem_dx11.dll I found that there are a lot of people experiencing this crash and it hasn't been patched yet. Try these threads, some people seem to have got the game working:

Been away for a few days.
Yeah I've updated DriectX. Dxdiag says it's on directX11.
I've tried the solution in the first link you posted - downloading the platform.rar file - but the .rar says it's corrupt near the end of the extraction process.
