I was getting this same issue (in New Zealand here). Just restarted the game then and got a connection. So the issue is server side. Fix now ea!

-1 issue been happening for me since the weekend. What a way of totally destroying the good buzz this game has been receiving across NZ. The game is totally broken right now and I cannot recommend to anyone else that they buy the game until the problem is resolved.
