Removing the fog/mist?

I'm almost certain the fog and mist (such as the mist in Angel City in the grassy area) is causing a lot of lag, because whenever I'm on a misty map or I look at the stuff, my framerate plummets.

All I want is to be able to remove it or make it invisible. Pretty sure it doesn't affect gameplay.

I did a similar thing with Skyrim, where the fog mesh was made invisible, and it helped performance along quite a bit.

It's good that they considered the uncompressed sound files, but turning this Fog of Doom off would be even greater. Because shooters are hard to play at 15 fps.

  • This probably has something to do with my issues.  Are your frames ok in rooms and if you stare at walls point blank?

  • Yeah, fps goes through the roof. It's also fine when looking at those mountains across the sea in Lagoon and other such background stuff.

In normal areas, it sits at a smooth framerate, but there aren't many normal areas - areas without fog or mist or dust. It's usually corridors and rooms.

  • I'm absolutely sure it's the mist now. Most maps have the stuff, it's ridiculous. Smuggler's Cove is covered in it and it just screws my framerate. Which is annoying, because I meet the minimum specs for this game. It's like they hired someone who REALLY likes fog and they let him get a bit carried away.

I say let us get rid of the damn fog. It doesn't change gameplay in the slightest and all it does it make lag.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. Certain FX effects (like fog or explosions) can have an impact on the frame-rate on some machines. If you are running with a low-spec PC, I recommend to turn the ingame effect quality to "low".

    Cheers

  • Yeah thanks for the reply, but for most people, turning down the settings is the first thing they try.

So it's not very helpful to suggest it. I want the stuff GONE, because no setting in any menu can disable it or even lower the amount.

Without it, the game would run so much better.

  • I'll give it a go. But I find it odd that there's currently no apparent way to disable it.

    Hi,

the fog is probably so much part of the level design that is it cannot be
    configured in any way.
