Tf2 framerate drop
New dell g5 laptop with latest drivers (tried multiple nvida drivers) Rtx 2070 max q System ram 16gbs 512 gb ssd Approximately 1-2 times per hour there is massive frame drop (down to 1-2 fps) sou...
That makes sense but I am seeing 100 percent usage on re8 maxed out and performance is great. I have also tried lowering the settings for tf2 and I didn't check on the GPU usage, but it made no difference. (my old laptop with a 1060 didn't need to lower settings btw?
The usage report is in Alienware control panel so I don't know how correct it is.
Update though I haven't seen the issue in a few hours of play, I'm hesitant to say the latest Nvidia driver solved it though. I'll keep testing thank you!
So this issue is still persisting. It may be certain types of effects. I read where someone got an issue when hit by monarch with shield sap and I haven't noticed it that. Sometimes It seems to happen with a scorch attach maybe a core? But that's not something I'm certain of. This is just guessing at things.

If gpu is on 100% usage it does sound like that was causing the frame drop @issambard

I have to disagree, EA_Atic.
From racing sims to Battlefield/Apex/TF2, hitting 100% on gpu load hasn't caused any drop in FPS with any of the people I know (who own a powerful enough gpu, for sure). But what might cause this are memory temps on the gpu chipset (hotspot sensors should catch this, but I have reason to believe that's not exactly the case with all chipsets) - so gpu temps and hotspots may be ok, but memory temps are way higher than normal.
I know people with RTX 3070s/2080s experiencing either microstuttering or fps drops even when loads are well below 100. There are even nvidia forum threads where people complain about fps drops and low gpu usage with RTX 3090s (there's a YT video which is quite telling 😮).
There may be several factors (other than cpu/gpu):
- windows updates
- gfx card driver updates
- sound card drivers updates
- some types of attacks on servers
- software causing conflicts with the game itself (years ago an anti-cheat daemon caused problems with a certain sim)
