I agree with you. Fundamentally we have to draw some lines in the sand. If this is DDOS, then who owns the responsibility to fix the issue. I have been a corporate guy long enough to understand that if something like this is going to parasitically drain resources from other areas that have budgeted support, well, in short, it's not going to happen. The current corporate models are not set up to be reactive above and beyond what is currently budgeted. So long story short as we know big bouts don't turn fast.
Why does EA keep charging people? You are right... They shouldn't. Again it boils down to your corporate model. People who manage product support have nothing to do with marketing or finances.
I believe that your company structure has to be dynamic. It needs to accommodate the support of the end-users (financial stream) while keeping a smile on the shareholders' or executive officers' faces. See we defined the problem for them. Now they can go fix it. 🙂
