Titanfall 2 not allowing 4K (3840x2160) resolution on PC

I just launched Titanfall 2 for the first time and I cannot select any resolutions above 2560x1440.  I have a 3840x2160 monitor that works fine in all other games I own.

I saw a mention of this problem on http://www.gamepur.com/guide/24763-titanfall-2-pc-errors-and-bugs-fix-connecting-servers-crash-engine-error.html

Is this a known issue with EA?  Is there a fix available for this?  If not, when can I expect one?

My specs:

Core i7-6950x

64GB RAM

2 x Nvidia GTX 1080's in SLI

Sony XBR-43X800D UHD TV connected via HDMI 2.0a

Nvidia Driver: 375.70 (10/27/16)

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit v1607

    I found a solution:

    C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Respawn\Titanfall2\local\videoconfig.txt

    "setting.defaultres" "3840"
    "setting.defaultresheight" "2160"

    Works for me.

  • Having the same issue as you - and the responses to other threads suggest 'change your desktop resolution' I find this ridiculous. I'm at native 4k, why would I screw up my desktop for this - every other game I play doesn't throw up a crappy 'init' error when I run it in 4k. It's not even a decent error handler, really poor coding.

same problem here, but i found a solution.

Disconnect any other panel from your VGA, use only your main panel.

Hi! I just purchased the game, and I have this problem with the resolution. I have tried the things mention on this feed, but they have no worked for me. Have you found a way around this problem?

@trompete1983Try right clicking the file after editing it to the desired resolution & set it to Read Only.

  • For 2024 people using the EA app on PC.

    "setting.defaultres" "3840"   <-------        Delete 1920 and type 3840.
    "setting.defaultresheight" "2160"  <------    Delete 1080 and type 2160

Changing these settings in your game file still works. But I had a hard time locating the file. They have different locations than what people have mentioned here. It may have changed after Origin changed the name to EA.

After failing to locate it for quite some time I searched "titanfall2" in my file manager and "videoconfig" was the first result on the list.

    For me it was: Local Disk (C: )/ Users/ My last name/ Documents/ Respawn/ Titanfall2/ Local/ Videoconfig

Edit: Airwolf-pro already said what i said. im just such a noob that i was looking for a file called "username" not realizing he meant MY USER NAME, which happened to be my last name. thats a name i never use as a username so im not sure where it came from or why that the file name. but airwolf pro's advice from 8 years ago is still exactly what i needed to do in 2024.
