We have an add me thread plus a subforum because the subforum does not work for some people. It's buggy and problematic. Would likely remain so even if it got a new name.
As to merging, the reason we don't tend to merge threads like this is because the merge function is also buggy and often eats posts. When it's the same info about the game or the same request, losing a post might be an acceptable risk because all the info will still be there. When people are posting that they'll be away, and their post is eaten by the system, then all the information is not there anymore, because half the info is about who is posting it, where info about an event isn't. It's not some obscure decision made for no reason.
