Awhhh that makes me sad...!

When the change first occurred I assumed it was permanent, due to the new roads, so I painstakingly moved half my city by 4 tiles to make the highways 3 lanes wide (2 roads separated by concrete)... oh well, not going back now!

Pity they didn't just go back to the way they were. I had to redo all of mine.

Or, you could change that strip of concrete to "grass" and plant trees (or shrubs) along the "center divider" of the streets like this:
