The law requires them to request ages. Oh well it's not the end of the world.
However in a way they could use it as a marketing tool. They could gather stats on the general percentage of age groups and target a certain group to increase players or they could check their stats and decide what to include to the game to keep the higher percentage happy while playing. Just my idea :) to make an annoying thing semi-helpful.
