Since autumn 2012 I’m playing with an iPad2. At the time the iPad3 seemed to overheat a bit so I decided to go for the basic model. The good side if that choice was that although it fell quite a few times I only have a few bumps and not a shuttered screen. My favourite fall was on the door’s draft stop wood. It fell from 1 meter and landed with the side of the screen on the extended wood. Not a scratch. Anyway, since 2012 I’m fairly satisfied although I’m experiencing some lag after the 2014 THOH event.
