Can anyone confirm my math here?

What you are saying is absolutely correct.

As far as strategy goes, it all comes down to what you are most interested in. If your goal is exclusively Gold Box items, then your odds are best if you trade in all of your common eggs for uncommon eggs, as in the end, you will receive a significantly higher number of gold eggs.

That being said, your odds for your uncommon box items are lower than your odds for the common box items. So, you will end up with fewer chances at a box that gives you worse odds. If you are interested in the items in your common box, then you would be better off just attacking those first and then switching over if/when you get them all.

Granted, neither of these strategies results in you having any chance of getting all the items without spending like a thousand donuts...but i digress...

All a bit confusing, but the way I see this is:-
500 common eggs provide 100 golden eggs (45% chance)
1000 uncommon eggs provide 300 golden eggs (1000 common exchange to 500 uncommon and also 45% chance).

Therefore the percentage ratios are 20% and 33%.
If I'm right then you get slighty more golden eggs by exchanging, but it is more hassle to exchange (getting baskets etc).

Also, unless I'm misunderstanding something, you don't get the better prizes until you've opened a certain number of boxes, irrespective of what color those boxes are. So when you exchange, you will be opening fewer boxes and decreasing your chances of getting the good prizes.
