You can't upgrade the gingerbread house anymore, because act 1 is finished.

I didn't even see this. I have the Gingerbread house, but how did you get the mansion? Was the house upgradeable during Act 1? Mine is tucked away in my SF, so I didn't even look for it to notice an ability to upgrade.
