I hope EA understands that they've made premium purchases during events completely pointless.
I suspect this was their actual intention with this event. With whacking day, and again with Halloween '13, people complained that some premium players would speed through the prizes within the first few days then become deadbeat friends for the rest of the event. While this is frustrating for freemium players, the solution is easy: cut the friend loose and replace them with someone who is still participating in the event.
The game based system levels the playing field between premium and freemium players by giving everyone the same odds for winning the prizes. Unfortunately, this basically means that neither freemium or premium players are guaranteed to win all the prizes, which has the affect of driving everyone nuts (to put it mildly). The exception, of course, are those who beat the odds and actually win stuff they want.
I think the cons of having a level playing field FAR outweigh the pros. No-one can get all the decorations and prizes they actually want without being stuck with an inventory full of trash that Spider Pig wouldn't even want, and no-one is guaranteed to win everything. (yeah ok, you get the good ones after 81 tries, but really, what am I supposed to do with all those pastel fences? Or worse, what if I buy enough eggs to get me there and win what I want on try #21? Then I'm stuck with a pile of event currency that will be deleted in just a few days!) Where is the fun in playing a game you know is designed to make you lose?
This makes me appreciate those deadbeat friends I had during whacking day a whole lot more!
