Yes, you are right...guess thats the way to go.... but if you clear certain gold prizes, easter baskets replace them. So you will eventually get 400 eggs (common, uncommon) for 500 gold eggs occasion...

The colour that gives you only 100 gold eggs is the one you should start to get rid of.
A faster measurement might be which color the egg/bunny hunting tasks pay out.
