Wednesday afternoon I experienced that dreaded glitch - the flashing of old events, the inability to clear or initiate character tasks using the icon in the upper-left corner, reduced tapping radius. I checked here, saw that I'd need to roll back, but waited it out until last night - Saturday at 8pm. The CSR I spoke with agreed to roll back the game, said he needed to speak with a technician, then eventually said it had to be escalated to the support team (or some such jargon), and that I should receive an email within 72 hours but if I don't, do not reopen the ticket, start a new one and give then the previous number (I'd imagine so the call still shows as resolved.) So - do I really need to wait 72 hours before I uninstall, clear cache, reboot, reinstall? All I want to do is rearrange buildings and I'm going into withdrawal. If it makes any difference, I haven't had any push notifications since before I placed the call.

Yes...ideally it should have been fixed in March 2017 (over a year ago)....and truthfully it is inexcusable it has not...but the reality is that they have not fixed the underlying root cause of this glitch. So we are still left with currently dealing with the symptoms ASAP however often they pop up in our own town.

I also received messages from old events and the burning tires gives me some special currency. When i go to other Springfileds, I receive "Friend Points", even though I got all the stuff. The tapping radius on my Springfield is also only as half the size I had before the issue. Also, the character button on top left is not working anymore. It is kinda annoying to play like that, but EA will probably fix this issue as soon as possible (hopefully)
Don't hold your breath. Call them and ask for a roll back. This issue is over a year old. More and more people are being affected by it, and EA seems to not acknowledge it. I know a few people have asked the moderators to ask about the glitch but we haven't heard anything from anyone about anything. I'm curious if the developers are even aware of this issue or if it just dead ended at customer service.
@hatchet669 I have copied your post into this thread, as it seems more appropriate here. The following was posted on March 15th 2018 in the ‘recent issues’ thread by @hobbesisreal:
So, since my game broke with the 2nd login after just 1 hour after it was successfully rolled back, I called EA again on the phone. This EA rep was sincerely helpful. He asked since my case has a 9 month running history of the progression of this issue, if I could spend some time with him as he loops in multiple departments to look at me case as a means of helping everyone with a general fix. One reason for this is because my game is one of the RARE instances when an EA rep actually figured what was broken in the game (which was due to bugged variables) and actually did a REAL fix (corrected all the wrong variables) ( https://forums.ea.com/en/the-simpsons-tapped-out/discussion/comment/1889528/#Comment_1889528 ). After I explained details of the history of this glitch (including how this has grown to more players with each update since the Time Event last year in June), and how my game was actually fixed, he put me on hold for about 10 minutes as he talked with another tech department. He came back asked a few more details, and put me on hold for another 15 minutes as he looped in the higher management levels to look at my case that actually showed a proven fix. He came back and said he is trying to get in contact with the development rep that actually figured out the real fix and is trying to get her and the development team and the upper management levels to talk together to apply this fix for not only my game that is now broken for the 7th time in 9 months....but for everyone. So after about an hour on the phone.......He did say that the upper management team said that they are getting really close for a public update release fix and hopes this insight into how my game was fixed will help finalize their update for release. He did say that even though there is not an ETA for the release he said that he had collaborated confirmation from both the development team and the upper management that is is coming very soon. When I said that I have heard that for 9 months, he said that each time that is noted in my account by an EA rep there are no notes from the development about this but this time he has this from their team. He did say that since they are so close to a fix release that rolling back a game right now could actually hinder the benefits of what the upcoming fix would address. So....can't say anything for sure, but he did (for a nice change) really take the time and was drawing in 3 different departments together (the original EA developer that actually found a fix for my broken game / development team / upper management team) to get a final fix.
@168sean168 Sorry to hear your game is affected too :( I posted the following in this thread on April 4th: @EA_Mage @johncolombo Would you mind contacting the Studio Team and give the forum an update on the current situation as regards to fixing this glitch please? Players are being given different responses from Customer Service Reps (such as ‘post your problem on the forum’ ‘we aren’t doing rollbacks any more’ ‘you can have a template town if you want’ or ‘a fix will be available soon’. Also some tickets are just closed without any response whatsoever) but others are given a rollback straight away. Many are angry or frustrated at the way EA are handling this problem. I have not had any reply so far. I do feel that if this is not fixed soon, then the game will close, as it is affecting more and more players with each passing day. @EA_Mage @EA_DarDar @EA_Lanna @EA_Leeloo @XXXO77O4906 @johncolombo @Deadshot_DCU

I’ve grown increasingly concerned with the passing months about EA’s seeming inability to get a handle on this bug and what that failure portends for the long-term viability of this game. Not being able to fix a bug in an already bugged game is one matter — while not not the optimal solution, rollbacks are always an option. But not being able to prevent new cases or re-glitched games is a far more troubling issue. It suggests to me that the game’s coding has become so unwieldy and complex that it now routinely defeats programmers’ efforts to debug all but the most trivial of problems. As a long-time player, if I were hit with this bug tomorrow, I would have to think long and hard about the advisability of continuing.
@168sean168 sorry to hear you too this is getting outta control, i’m scared every time i go to login. i’ve been afraid to update my phone and haven’t updated to this event on my phone because of all the issues. EA needs to get it together maybe everyone affected needs to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and share their complaint to get EA to respond responsibly

It’s been around a year now since this bug first cropped up. Given that amount of time, the bug’s continued existence tells me that (a) it’s likely EA cannot fix it, or (b) EA isn’t trying to fix or has not yet devoted sufficient resources to fix it. In either case, I really wish that once, just once, EA would let the user base know in some detail just what the heck is going on. And by “some detail” I mean more than the usual “we’re aware of the problem and are working hard towards a solution” blather.
