I don't think it's misguided at all to think that one game could be a threat to another game.
Timewise, of course we could juggle more than one game, but EA doesn't really care if we're playing, they care if we're paying. To assume that people will put equal money into both games is a bit na?ve. As such, one game can absolutely pose a financial threat if another game siphons off gamers' discretionary spending.
