- Apart from the band in my avatar (PJ is #1 in my book), these are my other favorite bands/artists:
Tool
Chevelle
Hum
Monty Montgomery (his songs kind of suck, but he's my favorite guitarist I've seen/heard play, video below)
A lot of my favorite albums come from bands I can no longer stand:
"Absolution" by Muse was amazing, and then they released "The Resistance" and died in my mind
"OK Computer" by Radiohead -- I wish they'd just release music...I'm not a fan of produced sounds....
"Frogstomp" by Silverchair -- I can't believe these guys peaked at 16!
and bands that I don't celebrate their entire catalogue:
"Ultimate Experience" by Hendrix - Castles Made of Sand, Little Wing, Watchtower...so much greatness
"Superunknown" by Soundgarden -- could listen to this anytime..older and newer stuff, not so much...
"Animals" by Pink Floyd -- probably contains my favorite songs other than Goodbye Blue Sky
"The Great Escape Artist" by Jane's Addiction -- my fav newer rock CD I've heard..odd, I didn't used to like Jane's Addiction
...and other artists close to my heart include: John Butler Trio, Tori Amos, Metallica, Pantera, Machine Head, Nirvana, Snoop Dog...but listening to those artists requires a certain "mindset" for me.
Here's some vids of the non-popular stuff I like for those that are bored and/or interested:
Monte Montgomery - "Little Wing" live cover (so many great and different versions, here's just one!)
Hum - "Stars" official video (seen on Beavis and * for about 12 seconds! lol)

(I guess I'd better mention that Pearl Jam will be playing in Chicago at Wrigley Field in July...I guess I have at least one plan for the summer!) - Well can never pick one favorite, but a quick list that is sure to leave off many, but trying to cover all genres that I like:
Shellac (Big Black and Rapeman too, love Steve Albini)
Mission to Burma
Sonic Youth
Yo La Tengo
Naked Raygun
Government Issue (and the whole Dischord label and everything on it)
Do Make Say Think (thank you Canada for this)
Bad Brains
Modest Mouse
Battles
Stereo Total
Franz Liszt
Rossini
Johnny Cash
Hank Williams Sr (stay away from Jr)
Del the Funky Homosapien
Miles Davis
Amy Winehouse
and I could keep going, but I figure that is enough for now Simpsons00001 wrote:

Animals is my all-time favorite album. :DSimpsons00001 wrote:

While I cannot stand Pearl Jam an Senor Vedder voice sends glass shard prickles down my spine upon hearing that bellowing screech...does the above imply you live in or around Chicago as I do or would just make the trek to the city to ruin your ears at such an event? And I do jest, I do not care who people listen too, they just never hit a chord with me.- I love that there are so many varied answers here.
For me, my two absolute favourites are the Tragically Hip and Pearl Jam. Both are spectacular live and always worth the price of admission.
For those unfamiliar with the Hip, the song below does a great job encapsulating the live experience. In the middle (starting around the 2 minute mark), Gord Downie breaks into a fantastic improvised story about swimming with killer whales. kgirl32 wrote:
I love this song. I think Dope curses in every song they make but this one! Lol
Why it no work? Lol
Change the "m" in the beginning of the URL to "www" and remove the "#/" in the middle. Oh yeah, also remove everything including and after "&desktop". Mobile links won't work.- If you dont know we all in trouble :P lol You are the guro for this sorta thing i thought :P
EDIT: Ignore the above comment obv spiff sorted it lol  mdfriend wrote:

I use to live in Chicago for a time, now I'm downstate in between Chicago, *. Louis, Indy. You can take pleasure in knowing that I've been tortured by Sonic Youth about 10 times...they've opened for pearl jam WAY TOO MANY times. Eddie is a compassionate man; he takes pity on those with significantly less talent. Note; I'm not an "Eddie is god" person. I wish he'd shut up at times, and I would never listen to his solo ukulele project. I know many people who hate his voice, and I intentionally play the worst sounding PJ vocals to annoy them.
Mdfriend--is that Liszt as in the composer? I'm a big fan of classical piano as well.Simpsons00001 wrote:

Ah, touche on the Sonic Youth jab. Shame on you using the word s.aint!
I do agree that while I cannot stand his voice, and he can be quite full of himself, he overall is a compassionate person, and I always respected their fight with Ticketmaster.
Yes, that Liszt is the composer, just love his work. Love classical, Rossini I know I mentioned is another favorite. Those two get good rotation on the iPod. I have to admit that I am a sucker for the harpsichord- All time fav band is Dream Theater.
This is long but will blow you away. Jump to 12:15 if you can't wait for it to really get started.
Can someone please fix the embedded video in here please?
