FYI: cannot group store characters
I am about to do a screen replacement on my borrowed iPad, so I’ll be stuck using my old android tab, possibly for a few days. I know the game runs better on it with fewer characters roaming around...

Just had a play and the answer is no - but it's not group store itself that's the problem . . .
As soon as you tap to group select it disables selecting characters so it'll never work, sorry :(
If all they all came with combos and you'd got all the items that unlocked 'em in one place you could do it that way but my guess is that'd be a pain to research and you'd need to move a shed-load of items !!
EDIT - on a similar note if you freed 'em and chased 'em down to store one at a time it'd also store a shed-load of combo items that unlocked 'em so maybe just leave 'em on task and don't collect
