It may be a random mix of 24 nightmares. I haven't ever gotten consistent results for type of nightmare spawned. If you release it when M'hunster is defeated and your town is clear, you may get the extra 4 from a bank. For me, the extra 4 spawns from the campfire at times or they will appear in town once the 20 are cleared (mostly spawning from campfire i.e. I have to wait for all 4 to come out)
