I can't even count the number of times I have played the game in the morning at my apartment (wifi) to the later that morning or afternoon get a message that I must update to play. This is frustrating...

You can set your device to auto update in settings somewhere. Or just hang around the forums long enough and you'll get a feel for when updates are expected. Basically one ends and a new one shows up in a day or two. This is the easy time of year too. Halloweens allways the first week of Oct, then thanksgiving mini mid November then Holidays first week of December.
