I think they figured they didn't get to everything they hinted at last year, so they'd rather not make more promises they can't keep.

I only started last year on January 7th. I remember the dialogue with "hints" at what might come in 2014 - but I think the Christmas Event was extended by about 10 days (I got all the community prizes and a few extras besides from the wheel) - so the dialogue must have come after that? Certainly not as early as New Year 2014.
Something makes me think it came with an episode tie-in - or even at the very end of Valentine's?
