Erm ... no. The term was corrected because you can carry, and pass on, an infection but not actually show any symptoms and, in medical terms, an infection is not a disease unless, and until, it starts to physically affect you.
HIV is an STI, for example, and not everyone who is infected with HIV will necessarily develop AIDS (which in any case is not a disease). Likewise very few women infected with HPV will develop cervical cancer as a result.
Not all changes are driven by political correctness, particularly in scientific or medical circles. Sometimes (actually most of the time) things are changed because knowledge, and/or understanding, of an issue has developed and rendered the previous name misleading or plain inaccurate.
