To be fair ... Firefly was cancelled because of poor ratings and Serenity did poor business at the box office. Personally I like both, although the level of love for Firefly has always baffled me, so I don't really see that proves Fox are not smart ... For me they are smarter than Paramount who paid for a theatrical movie based on the devotion of a small number of brown coats.
That aside, while I would love more Futurama (notwithstanding that we are only just getting season 10 in the UK) the last few seasons have not been anything like as consistently funny, clever and surprising as the early years. I would prefer it to remain the gem that it is than become a shadow of itself as The Simpsons has (inevitably) become.
