IMHO, House Farming ruins the game in so many different ways.

Stop the house farming! Make you Springfield a better place!

IMO, if a house has a driveway, the driveway should open onto a street.

    That's my main rule.

After playing the game for a few weeks (with all the premium content), I started a second Springfield to see how I could do with no premium content.

My second city was done as a joke. So to thumb my nose at all the house farmers who don't realize how ridiculous their cities look, I threw up a ton of houses around the sides of a blank field. I then used the small hedges to write out "TAPPED OUT STORAGE YARD".

While I was doing this, I realized I needed some quick money in my "real" game in order to buy decorations to make things pretty.

Since I'd spend lots of time designing my main town (about two hours a night), I eventually decided to build 72 brown houses, and to arrange them like a prison camp (as I thought they looked like barracks).

    I eventually bought 12 property squares (3 x 4) and could arrange the 72 brown houses in 8 x 9 rows.

There was also enough space around the perimeter to put pavement and a chain link fence (which I switched to barbed wire after the Halloween update offered those instead).

I also had enough space to put a green area inside the camp and write out "STALAG 13" with hedges. :P

The 72 houses gave me $504 every five minutes, which was good when I was buying the 200 or so trees for the forest I was working on.

Anyway, I thought the prison camp idea was clever in that it gave me some ready cash to help me do other things, but it didn't look like a typical house farm. (It was also far away from my city's "downtown" area, so I didn't need to look at it much.)

Unfortunately, EA lost my main city three weeks ago, so I needed to disband the "storage yard" and I turned it into a proper town, with streets. (I also put its 100 or so brown houses into storage, with just one in the city for jobs that require it.)

But, I'm not doing much beautifying anymore as I feel EA will lose what I've got now and don't want to waste more time.

Love the prison camp idea. I don't really farm. I created a small section of brown houses just for the Christmas update so friends could get coins quickly. I understand why people farm! however, I do appreciate the creative farmers who make it beautiful versus just a sea of houses.
  • This form makes me feel alittle guilty about my addiction.
My name is bcoolj and I am a house farmer  <~ (said like at a AA meeting)
I had an account since the day the app launched. i had it all, the land, characters, beautiful layout, the girl (......ok no girl) and even a duff race car in my driveway  And i did it without buying any donuts (even wasted a few because i couldn't hit cancel fast enough, damn brown house)...Then came "The Great Crash", you know the one i'm talking about.....and it was all gone.
That's when I turned to  house farming
I know I have an addiction, but I just trying to get my life back to where it was.
I just need a quick fix and this my solution, I can quit at anytime.
I hate my self for house farming, but I need this....I know I will never see my duff race car again, but when I look at yours it reminds me of what I had
So just let me house farm till i can get back on my feet and make my town the way it once was, I can quite at anytime...you will see........... Add bcoolj14

LOL! At least you know you have a problem and you're doing it for a purpose. Sometimes the end justify the means :) Hope you get your town back to the way it was soon. So sorry about your Duff car. I joined too late to get one, but would have loved it.
  • I have multiple copies of each type of house (no more than 6-8 per type, except brownies which I have 20 for the Christmas business) I call them my little subdivisions... they are definitely NOT unsightly ... and I find this game has a "hump" around levels 12 to say 14-15ish where everything just drags on, then you get passed it and get a few more new characters and such and its not as bad, at this point you are "passed the hump." I know this, because I recently just passed this hump. After Christmas is done I will be dropping my coloured house count down to about 4-6 per type. And that's that.

But the farms do help for those "hump" levels where it feels like it drags on for days with no progress...
  • for me creating more brown house is not farming, since i create 6-9 brown house just for the christmast, ppl like to add you if you have brown house to be tapped and get coins, and that's what i do i create some for neighbors to tap so they don't have to wait.. if you don't have fast enough brown to be tapped people tends to remove you from his/her friendlist. i take it as common courtesy to have brown house for christmast for your friends to be tapped since i personally don't like when people add me as their friend and i give them some luxry but then when i visit them he only have one simpson house to be tapped and made me wait for another 45 sec x 2.., but it's my opinion, what you think about it ?

Sometimes I'm just shocked at the size of the farm lol I have one guy and it has to be 95% of his Springfield.
To each their own I guess.
    Farmers feed cities lol
My farm is 4 brown houses in a row, my little ghetto area.

I have one of those in my friends list. The whole map is covered.

No offense to anyone who house farms, and I'm not telling you to stop, but it really does ruin the fun of the game.

    1. Tons of money = A LOT faster completion, which ruins the fun.

    2. Takes up Space - Other parts of your Springfield might be mashed together.

    3. Crashes More - With all the houses and money it spawns, your Springfield's chance of crashing or even resetting increases by about 50%, more or less depending on how much you farm.

Your initial disclaimer was false, you do and did offend others with your post. You have the choice not to vist those Springfields that offend you, be it via house farming or any other idiosyncrasies that others have done to their own. Play the game the way that benefits you... simply MYOS (Mind Your Own Springfield).
  • I like to play the donut bonus as often as possible. More white houses... more money and xp. The weather station is 2000 xp and they cost $. My mission is to turn game money into donuts. I need more white houses. I only have a hundred or so. There is more than one way to play this game. I like free donuts. Other people like pretty towns. To each his own.

No not getting rid of my farms.
