If you are buying mystery boxes to increase your multiplier, I am averaging triple the standard rate of 20 donuts for 1%, meaning I am getting about 1 news van, and 1 billboard for a net cost of 20 donuts. In case you are wondering how that is possible, some of the mystery boxes contain 10 and 30 donuts, which gives you more boxes to open.
