Last movie I watched in the cinema was Star Wars the Last Jedi (2017). It is not as good as the EP 7 for me. Though there was a moment where the whole theatre went silent with some hush wow.. followed by some giggling reaction. I am no longer yearning for EP 9 after this episode - http://a68.tinypic.com/34xpe94.jpg
This was released recently and I was overjoyed to add it to my DVD library addiction. My Grandmother read this book to me before I could read. Now they claim it’s not appropriate for children, and is under threat of book burning. These children and their father taught me so much. I love my Grandma <3 for teaching me “compassion” and making me curious about people I’ve may never meet. The next story she read to me was authored by Pearl S. Buck. (all Rather heady for an immigrant from Finland)
I love this story. I hope it inspires others. "pepsimax1984;c-1895660" wrote:
I watched it too. I couldn't laugh at all in the 2016 version. It was quite terrible and in my top five worst movie for that year. I understand that the old actors were compelled to appear contractually. Given the choice, Bill Murray would not want to appear.
I didn’t know that about them.
Yeah I couldn’t laugh either. I think they shouldn’t have tried to reboot it
The info was supposedly from wikileaks of Sony emails. If they don't support the new movie, they might face lawsuits.- Some recent films we’ve watched. Minor spoilers...
The Shape of Water (2017). Guillermo del Toro’s Cold War parable is the director’s best effort since Pan’s Labyrinth. Winner of the Oscar for best film of 2017. It wasn’t my favorite of 2017, but it was an okay choice as far as I was personally concerned. Great film score by Alexandre Desplat.

120 battements par minute (BPM (Beats Per Minute)) (2017). Robert Campillo’s French drama about the AIDS epidemic and the evolution of the ACT UP movement in 1990’s Paris. Somewhat reminiscent of 2014’s The Normal Heart, although I found BPM’s plot a little less focused and cast a bit undifferentiated.

Madam Satan (1930). An uneven pre-Code musical directed by Cecil B. DeMille. Mediocre choreography and zero chemistry between the two principals, Kay Johnson and Reginald Denny.

Lucy (2014). I was a little surprised by how much I disliked this film; I usually react more positively to Luc Besson’s work. This is another Besson movie that focuses on a strong female character. The problem (from my perspective at least) is that (a) the female in question, played by Scarlett Johansson, becomes less and less interesting as the film progresses, and (b) the plot depends on some of the silliest pseudoscientific nonsense imaginable. I found it painful listening to the great Morgan Freeman spout this drivel.

Many Rivers to Cross (1955). A largely unfunny romantic comedy that takes place on the American frontier during the late 1700s. Eleanor Parker is occasionally effective and engaging, but her opposite, Robert Taylor, too frequently looks as though he’d rather be elsewhere. Trivia question: The cast features which two actors who would go on to greater fame in the 60s sitcom, Gilligan’s Island?

We have over the past few weekends watched a bunch of the movies in Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious franchise. I’ve seen all of them now except for the most recent entry. I wouldn’t call any of these films great, but some of the more recent entries are sorta fun pop-corn events, if you can get past the rather ridiculous Mission: Impossible-esque plots and the constant chattering about the importance of family.

Cabin in the Sky (1943). One of a handful of films made during the first part of the 20th century with all-African-American casts. Although largely well-intentioned, the film’s white perspective on black culture is often cringe-inducing. On the other other hand, the film affords viewers the opportunity to see some truly great performances, particularly that of Ethel Waters, who was reprising her Broadway role as Petunia, the long-suffering wife of Little Joe, played by Eddie “Rochester” Anderson. This film also marked the directorial debut of Vincent Minnelli.

It (2017). A surprisingly effective adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Bill Skarsgård‘S physical and verbal mannerisms make for an incredibly creepy Pennywise and director Andy Muschietti is able to coax quite natural performances from the kids in the cast, particularly Sophia Lillis.

Along with the Gods : The Two World's (2017). This Korean film is the second most viewed domestic film in the history of Korea. The premise of the film, which you would be told right in the beginning, is that once a person passes away, he will go through 7 Courts of hell to determine his reincarnation outcome in 49 days. Each court will address the severity of the sin it handles and determines the appropriate punishment or acquittal.
This star studded film is ladened with CGI and some are quite good. The background story of the person under trial will unravel like a mystery as the film progresses. There are some comedic moments and also touching moments. Overall, it is just an ok film for me. I did go away feeling like there are more goodness I need to strive for. - https://i.imgur.com/hOrsSz7.jpg
The Shape of Water (2017). Nice soundtrack and detailed production design. A little quirky. A four Oscar win film. Worth watching. - https://imgur.com/hh0snPi.jpg
Murderer (2014). Despite the title and scary looking poster, this film has a very good story. It is too bad that it is quite short at around 75 minutes. Felt that it was one act too short. A good watch for me. - https://i.imgur.com/ducO3sn.jpg
Masked Rider the First (2005). I was exposed to these superheros since I was a boy. I was only familiar with the first five riders then. This film is a retelling story of the first two riders. Very seriously made without any humour, targeted at adults rather than children. Action scenes are good and mostly practical effects. But also many drawn out slow drama scenes. An ok watch mostly for fans. Seeing them in costume and fighting is exciting. - https://i.imgur.com/vAKLlaB.jpg
Masked Rider the Next (2007). The sequel to the First. This Japanese film is darker and has horror elements and even a brief nudity. Again action sequences are good using traditional fighting choreography rather than CGI and weapons.
Great to see rider V3 added to the team. This film probably will be good for fans only. This is a rewatch for me as I missed the first film previously. Now is a good time to link up. - https://i.imgur.com/D5LBI8B.jpg
Ah Boys to Men 4 (2017). A Singapore comedy film about a compulsory return to re-training from civilian life in an Armour unit. Mainly in English, with Hokkien dialect, and some Chinese thrown in. An ok watch, probably only Singaporeans will identify with.
