I guess I'm in the minority but I put everyone on the monorail until it's done then go back to the event full steam. I usually finish events with 4 or 5 days to spare so I dont mind slowing my event progress.
I usually forget about the monorail for at least 4 hours every Tuesday. So I have to play catch up. My premium town I usually finish Tuesday night, and my freemium town sometime Wednesday afternoon so I don't miss a whole lot of the event.
