went with option 2 and finished by 9pm last night (instead of my usual 5pm), so not much of a difference from a railyard view (got a nice balance in glass/plastic/metal requests, so didn't run into a block with one particular request).
I did steal characters from the event for the overstock (built up the amount to 5 under the cap before pulling them in for the last bunch), so lost a few hours of event currency on some of them.
