This is what I do. In the evening I also squeeze in an extra couple of hours of metal/plastic if I know I'll be going to sleep in less than 4 hours.
eg: collect 4 hour event tasks at 9:30pm, set plastic characters and metal characters, 10:30pm collect metal and reset them, 11:30, collect plastic and metal set everyone on event tasks/overnight tasks.
