mountain range idea

The mountain range now seems to be a set of 'buildings' now instead of background. They go translucent when you hit the hide buildings button in edit mode. Characters can even walk between them. I found Brockman sunning himself over on the Heights beach yesterday and when I tapped him onto a new task he walked between two mountain segments to get to his destination instead of going to the tunnel.

It wouldn't make much sense to put things on them, they're supposed to be huge but they're barely bigger than the things you've suggested. I'm surprised we can't 'upgrade' them though. "Turn your plain mountain into a ski resort", or "Make your mountain a volcano". All for donuts of course.
  • This would be a great way to increase space in town, especially since the mountain-type items all have a huge footprint. Many of them would also look much better in actual mountains.
  • there seems also to be images indicating construction and destructions of mountains... uh this is interesting
  • {Goes back and re-reads original post...}

    Oh, for some reason I thought you were talking about billboards and such - and putting them ON the mountains. I guess I'm not really awake yet.

    It would be difficult to make the mountains replaceable with only specific items. And I think It would look wrong to have things like the Volcano Lair and the Ice Palace placeable next to each other.

    It would be nice to be able to change them though. Like buying a skin for a character. That way they wouldn't all look the same.

    I'm pretty sure that's technically possible right now, though.
  • It shouldn't be that difficult to make them replaceable. Video games have featured terrain customization for, what, 20 years? 30? It's silly how limited the design functionality is in this game. When I first started I was laying roads and decorations and everything until I found the roads could only go on a specific grid, and there was no area select tool to move things around. Now I just have a few limited aesthetic touches but mostly arrange things by practical considerations like putting most of the buildings with the same task time next to each other, and having almost no roads so I don't have to hunt for characters.
  • I think that it would be great if we could move the tunnel freely along the mountain range, so we can better fit it into our town design. At the moment it sits in the backyard of my elementary school and I really don't want to redesign that part of my town...

    Also I would like the animated clouds back. The mountains look kind of lame without them.
  • I was wondering what happened to the clouds, too. They do appear over the mountains on the other side of Springfield Heights.
