In possible mitigation, I would point towards the conventional wisdom regarding donuts that pop out when tapping during neighbor visits. Namely, collect them manually, and do not let them auto-collect. In order to do this, you'd first have to see them pop out - which means waiting long enough such that you'd not experience uncounted graffiti taps.

Although, I'd have to admit there isn't universal agreement about losing auto-collected donuts. To each their own, I guess.
