Things come and go in the game, i assume, because the designers get bored and just try new methods.
Try to view an annoying change as going up in difficulty level. It IS a game, and all we do is tap a screen, so how else can they increase difficulty? It's psychological, ha. I think they like making it frustrating for us, like we reached advanced levels.
