Saturday night live will still be the longest running scripted show at 847 episodes.
It's been on for 43 years. I remember watching the first season. :o
SNL is not considered primetime, as it airs after 11:30 eastern time. That’s why Simpsons will be number one. It’s a technicality, but that’s why they are being awarded the honor.

I notice that there is a rather odd caveat that prefaces this list, to wit:Shows that aired during late night (after 11:30 pm EST) are not usually considered as being in prime time, but are treated as such for the purposes of this list.
So in a narrow sense, I would assume that this disqualifies SNL.
Remember the original Saturday Night live cast circa the 70's, with "the not ready for prime time players"?
God, they all look so young...
Like you I (dimly) recall watching many of those first season episodes.
