Bottom line: EA didn't do this to make a huge amount of money. Look at the timing: I believe it's meant to get people into the game more than anything. Start of a new school year for the vast majority of the USA, with colleges in session starting in the morning- it's a perfect time to get them into the game!
Yeah but if they don't add new things they might very well get a lot of people out of the game. With a lot of other things going on, it's hard to get excited by this game after you finished the event and there are 5 weeks to go.
How is this intermediate period any different than the other times in between level updates and events? how is this any different than back in March between the valentines day and easter events? It isn't really.
EA does not have to cater every event to keep the interest of a few, not when they need to find ways of getting more people to play.
