Quickly! Need a short primer on swapping daily task. Thank you.

Quick question. When people talk about "swapping out" when they get their daily task completed, I read that you press the 'X'. Is that the X that then says "Do you really want to dismiss ...?" or ...

I don't understand what happened. When my wife tapped the X it asked "Do you want to dismiss this task?" She tapped okay and it seems like all it did was reset the daily challenge. There was no reward of wands, or anything. Just have to start the challenge all over again.
