really confused about the embryo/egg thing, please help

i have not yet placed any eggs in any neighbor towns, but i have gotten those notifications when you enter your town that your aliens have returned from other towns and brought back x probes...i'm assuming this is a glitch, unless there is another aspect of this game that i'm not understanding.

can someone please help me out here, maybe post some screenshots of what the eggs look like while they are "hatching" and then what they look like when they're full grown and you can't get any probes from them?

IMO, they are a parody of the Predalien (Predator/Alien), and called Grem-Alien (Gremlin/Alien).

I was thinking more of the Dog Alien for the Gremlin hybrids.
