In Singapore flats, people dry the laundry by using bamboo poles and sticking it out of the kitchen windows

This is an upgrading programme going on to introduce bamboo racks. Because the bamboo holders could be a source of breeding grounds for mosquitos if the resident did not cover it up. Secondly, old bamboos at times would break and fell, posing a risk to pedestrians below.

This is a picture showing a block with partially completed bamboo rack. This flat should be about 30 years old. The upgrading starts only if the flat hits this age.

In a precinct of flats, one or more of the flats would have the void decks converted to small businesses offering services like clinic, barbers, food, provisional shops
